Menale Kassie

Menale Kassie is a development economist with over 16 years of experience in impact assessment and gender research. He is the Head of the Social Sciences and Impact Assessment Unit at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe). Before joining icipe, Menale worked for the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and a government organization in Ethiopia. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and books on the impacts of agricultural development interventions, one health economics, and gender analysis listed in Google Scholar and Scopus.

He has also contributed to enhancing the food security of poor people in Africa by mentoring young researchers, building the capacity of partners in economic tools, and mobilizing resources to develop technologies and generate evidence for informed decision-making. He has received many awards for his research excellence and leadership, including an elected fellow of the African and Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, TWAS Siwei Cheng Award in Economic Sciences, and ranked among the world's top 2% of scientists.
