Margaret Loy Khaitsa

Khaitsa is a  Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology with an international focus, at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University. She is Board certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Khaitsa has taught Epidemiology, for over 30 years and mentored several undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. She is a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program, Fellow, (2014, 2017, Uganda and Tanzania and a Fulbright Fellow (2020/2021, Kenya). Khaitsa participated in WHO/FAO /OIE Tripartite Technical Working Group on Review of Zoonoses Guide “Training and Workforce Development”, 2017.

She is currently a Member of One Health High-Level Expert Panel, a 26-member global panel advising FAO, OIE, UNEP, and WHO on One Health matters. Her areas of research are infectious disease epidemiology and food safety. She has managed several grants including the USAID funded multi-institutional grant on “Capacity building in Integrated Management of Transboundary Animal Diseases & Zoonoses” (CIMTRADZ) in East & Central Africa (2011-2015), and USDA-FAS supported project “Establishing and harmonizing SPS regulatory regimes across the eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs) of the African Union (AU)” (2019-2023). Khaitsa has won several awards and published widely including editing a special issue Pan African Medical journal. She Co-Founder HERS-East Africa (www.HERSEA.org).
