John K. M. Kuwornu obtained his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and Marketing in 2006, from Wageningen University, Netherlands, and an M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics and Management in 2002 from the same university. He was also awarded a Master of Arts in Ministry from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, in 2013, and a B.A. in Economics with Political Science from the University of Ghana, in 1997.
He is currently a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in the School of Agriculture and Technology, based in University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, Ghana. He is the Dean of the School of Agriculture and Technology and acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university. Previously, he served as a lecturer and senior lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness in University of Ghana, and as an adjunct lecturer in both the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Business School and the University of Ghana Business School. He also served as an associate professor of agribusiness management in the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. He served in the same capacity in the then Department of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Extension, in the University of Energy and Natural Resources.
Prof. Kuwornu is dedicated to his work, is a team player, and has excellent interpersonal relationships with colleagues, subordinates, and superiors. He is always eager to learn new techniques to solve societal problems. He has a strong background in economics, econometrics, and marketing. He has vast knowledge in applying econometric principles to solving societal problems. He can meet tight and difficult deadlines and has a passion for achieving desired results on time. He is versatile and easily works under extreme pressure. He is diligent with managing his time and handles administrative assignments excellently. Prof. Kuwornu’s research and teaching focus on agribusiness management, agribusiness marketing, agricultural finance, agricultural economics, climate change economics, development economies, development studies, quantitative methods and econometrics.
He has published two books, 15 book chapters, and over 130 articles in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Marketing Channels, Journal of Agribusiness in Developing and Emerging Economies, Land Use Policy, Energy Policy, Development in Practice, International Journal of Value Chain Management, British Food Journal, Sustainability, International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management, Local Environment, Agricultural Finance Review, International Journal of Social Economics, Waste and Biomass Valorization, Ecological Economics, Environment, Development and Sustainability. He is a member of the Editorial Board for Agricultural Economics, an international journal, and a reviewer for many other journals in his field of expertise.
He has also consulted for national and international organisations including the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, World Bank, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET), West African Trade Hub, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), International Growth Center - London School of Economics, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), United Nations Development Programme, and others. He possesses strong analytical and conceptual skills as well as written and verbal communication skills.
Prof. John K. M. Kuwornu is an internationally recognised scholar and possesses strong leadership and administrative qualities.
