Speaker Profile

Peter Pivadga Njiforti (PhD) is a professor of economics.  He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, an M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics, and a B.Sc. in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He currently teaches research methodology, mathematical economics and advanced econometrics at the Ahmadu Bello University Business School.

He has widely published in both local and international peer review journals. His research interests are in the areas of agricultural, environmental, and development economics.  He has been involved in a wide range of empirical research studies and was the Faculty of Social Sciences representative on the Ahmadu Bello University Board of Research.  Other empirical research studies that he has participated in include: “Assessment and Analysis of Economic Cost of Land Degradation and Hotspot Mapping in Semi Arid, Sub Humid and Humid Regions in Nigeria”; "Trash to Cash" in five communities in Yola, Nigeria; "Alternative Livelihood for Communities within the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) Corridor in northwestern Nigeria", and many more.

Professor Njiforti is also currently the Principal Investigator (PI) for the ALL-IN research project titled "Mutual Weather Index Insurance for Adaptation to Climate Risk in the Sudano-Sahelian Zone of Nigeria: Evidence from a Framed Field Experiment", managed in the Department of Economics, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.  He brings strong leadership qualities and vast experience in agriculture-related research to the research team. He also brings unique competencies in understanding and application of quantitative methods and applied econometrics to agriculture-related research.
