Bio

Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, PhD, FGA, is the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, with over 21 years of experience in higher education. A Professor of Linguistics and accomplished university administrator, she emphasizes innovation and resourcefulness in leadership, demonstrating expertise in change management. As Vice-Chancellor, she is spearheading the university's technological integration with a people-centric approach, launching a seven-million-dollar digitalization program. Previously serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor and holding various positions at the university, she earned her degrees in Linguistics and French from the University of Ghana and her post graduate degrees from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Ghana.

She has a post-graduate certificate in Administration and Management from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and has received additional training in higher education management and leadership from Harvard Business School, University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and INSEAD, France. Professor Amfo is a member of prestigious societies like the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and holds leadership roles in international organizations. She has received several accolades, including the GUBA Nana Yaa Asantewaa Woman of Enlightenment and Glitz Africa's Ghana Woman of the Year for Excellence in Education in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Her recognition by the Head of State Awards Scheme in December 2023 further acknowledges her excellence in education, leadership, and gender empowerment.
