Bio

Robertson Khataza is a faculty member at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), in Malawi. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Western Australia, and an M.Sc. in Development and Resource Economics from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway.  

Before joining LUANAR, he served as a research associate (Impact Assessment) for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Malawi. His research interests broadly cover technology adoption and impact assessment as well as productivity and efficiency analysis. Specific research interests include economics of agricultural sustainability, gendered conflicts and agricultural productivity, and impact of digital technologies in agriculture and natural resources.

He is Principal Investigator (PI) for “Digital Innovations to Improve Market Access for Horticultural Produce in Malawi (2021-2024)”, supported by the Feed the Future ALL-IN initiative through the International Centre for Evaluation and Development (ICED) in collaboration with MRR Innovation Lab, which is based at University of California - Davis. He is also PI for other projects including “Facilitating Remote Work for New Graduates in Malawi (2023-2024)”, funded by J-PAL, and “Trees for Better Nutrition and Health”, supported by the Royal Kingdom of Norway through the Sustainable Food Systems in Malawi (FoodMa) project.
