As the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), James Antwi advises on initiatives that involve conceptualization, designing, and effective implementation of M&E in private and public sectors in Africa. He promotes ICED’s rigorous, evidence-informed practices and approaches in monitoring, learning and evaluation in the projects and programs that are carried out by ICED, with the aim of improving the wellbeing of individuals, societies, and ecosystems in the Global South.
James holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Delaware. He has over 27 years of consulting, industry, and teaching experience. He has experience in M&E and institutional capacity building. He was a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for 12 years. Before joining GIMPA, he worked for the State of Ohio Treasury for 11 years as a senior systems programmer and as IT operations manager. James has built M&E and project management capacity for over 2000 government officials from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia, and Senegal. He has provided technical assistance, mentoring, and coaching to over 25 NGOs and other civil service organizations in their effort to build and sustain results-based M&E systems. He has developed capacity-building plans, managed capacity-building projects, conducted impact evaluations, and developed strategic plans for organizations.
James’ belief that evidence should drive policies and actions for transformation of lives and livelihoods aligns with ICED’s vision. His work is inspired by opportunities to engage and support decision makers in government, development, business, academia, and civil society. This motivates his drive in overseeing and conducting strategic evaluations and research. His work translates into his passion of inspiring people to believe in themselves.
