Hon. Abate is currently working as State Minister in the Ministry of Planning and Development of Ethiopia, specifically in the division of Monitoring and Evaluation. She has over ten years of experience in different leadership positions in different government institutions. She was also an economics teacher at a preparatory school. Hon. Abate holds an M.A. in Leadership and Good Governance along with a B.A. in Business Management.
